I don't recall many people mentioning getting a perm to add thickness to your hair. If you have at least 4 inches length you can get a "texture perm" for $60 and I find myself not having to use as many products to thicken up my thin/straight hair. I tried it and will probably end up getting another one in 6 months. Haven't shed hair and the box the hair stylist had said delicate or no damage on it.
Stuff I tried before:
Toppik Conditioner - not much difference
American Crew Fiber - works decent, but takes a little time to apply
Big Sexy Hair Dense Thickening Spray - works decent. Just spray and go. Not much hold, but I don't like crunchy hair anyway
Before and after attached my hair is actually 3 inches longer leaning against the building, but layrite matte cream and the big sexy spray held it down
