The impending kratom move to schedule 1 is getting some national coverage.
This article from Huffington Post states that the petition to the White House has 113,000 signatures.
They report that there is very little interest from members of congress in getting answers from the DEA, particularly members who have been pushing for marijuana reform like Bernie Sanders.
Also there is a watchdog group that wanted answers how the DEA arrived at its decision, namely what kind of information were they getting that led to this move to ban kratom.
I don't know if reaching the petition threshold will make much difference, possibly delaying the effective date ? don't know.
It's troubling because this type of ban ( schedule 1 ) pretty slams the door on even getting appropriate research to happen.
I'm wishing at this point that 60 minutes had produced a segment on kratom given the seriousness of the narcotic epidemic in the us.
