Getting back in gym after a layoff - by: Kiwi

I'm not proud to admit this but I took nearly 3 months off the gym. I was killing it in the gym every day towards the end of last year, making great progress. Then I got sick, was swamped at work, began drinking too much to handle the stress at work, developed a bit of a drinking problem and fell out of the gym routine and was living off subway and alcohol.

In that time I have lost over 20 lbs, and after getting back in the gym the past week my lifts are at pretty much the same point as they were a YEAR ago.

I'm angry at myself. My physique has gone to shit. I have lost so much size and strength being back in the gym makes me feel weak. I've been attempting the same routine I was using (a PPL split) last year when I was making great progress, but I feel like I'm barely struggling through a half-assed workout every time I step in the gym.

First step I did was get sober. After not drinking for a few days my head seemed to clear out and I realised what a monumental fuckup I had made. I had been drinking 6-7 days a week, feeling down and tired all the time, then drinking more because that made me not care that I felt bad. Getting sober first seemed to lift the fogginess and pushed me to get back in the gym, but it seems like I've lost an entire years worth of progress and will have to spend a good 6+ months just catching up.

Anyway, I'm posting here for any advice you guys have on getting back your lost strength and size after a layoff. Terminator, dc7, anybody else who has experience bouncing back after a layoff, come at me.

My actionable steps for tomorrow are to 1) go grocery shopping and get some real food, 2) buy new gym headphones to replace the ones I lost, 3) buy a big ass tub of protein powder, and 4) get in the gym even if it feels useless right now. Any tips or advice or whatever would be great, cheers mates.
