I just need to write this out to make myself accountable and see my own biases.
The silly beginnings:
Almost two years ago, (wow), I bought my first domain. Once I found my niche, I did a pretty regular blog and podcast. Nobody cared about the blog but the podcast was very well recieved. I made some affiliate sales and learned how to use wordpress. It was a good starting experience. I've said most of what i know on the topic so I let it fizzle out.
In October 2016, I was joking with a couple guys at work and we said we should make an animated show. None of us know how to animate, so we settled on a webcomic for the time being.
I bought the domain and hosting, and we got to work. At first it was tricky and random, but we figured out a schedule around February. We publish a new comic every Monday and we're at 30 comics total so far.
We've built a "decent" presence on Gab, Minds, and Twitter to help direct traffic.
Originally, I was helping one guy I met at school, who used to run strip clubs and porn websites, I was helping him write his memoirs. We got to 50 pages but now it seems he's giving up. So...that project stalled out.
The other project we have is our app, which is actually getting pretty close to being done (or so I'm told by our app developer). He's saying it'll be done in June, so that would be sweet.
Now that the book project has stalled out, and we already have a bank of 30 comics, I'm starting to think of animation again. I would need a new laptop, as I've been working off a Chromebook for 2 years and from my research there isn't any animation stuff available.
But before I spend a grand to buy a new laptop, I'd like to do the responsible thing and continue paying off my credit card (-$1,900). The minimum payment isn't bad, but I send Mastercard $100 every Friday to get rid of it. Which would mean a timeline of 19 weeks left, which is 4-5 months. Once I pay off my credit card, and I can buy a laptop with debit, then I can get to work on actually animating the comics.
It looks like I might be getting a higher-paying job in May, so here's hoping. Just got the email yesterday. So that would help me pay off the credit card and save up faster.
This is just an update for April 4th, 2017 to keep myself accountable.
Moving forward:
-Keep publishing a new comic every Monday
-Keep being patient and paying off the credit card ($100 every Friday)
-Continue to stay in contact about the higher-paying job
-Continue helping Tyler with the app
