Hello to everyone in this community. I am 23 years old from California. I consider myself very well rounded, but have a problem with living life with the social freedoms I desire. I have never hit on a girl for the sole purpose of getting a number or having sex. I have a problem with approaching almost anyone outside the context of a professional relationship, unless I get to know the person for a couple weeks. Quite simply, I want to be able to approach anyone with confidence, while being myself and having the tools at my disposal to lead a conversation. Be it hitting on that "10" during the day, approaching someone in the library reading the same book as you, or having a conversation with the boss that does not involve day-to-day work.
I have been reading self-improvement material for about the past 5 years, with dating material off and on. I self identify as the "boyfriend" type, and have always disagreed with pick up type material. After college, my attitude towards the subject changed, as I realized there is a lot more to the topic than just picking up and banging chicks. The content from pick up material can be used to help achieve social freedom and enrich your daily life.
I have had three girlfriends, with a couple of encounters in between. I feel comfortable in relationships, and that comfort leads to social anxiety once the relationship ends. Most likely, it is because I tended to disappear off the face of the Earth during relationships, and when not in one, I do not put myself out there. I found GLL buried among many of my bookmarks, and decided to give it a serious read after a spring break trip where I did not hit on a single girl. I still enjoyed the trip, but I realized how crippling my approach anxiety was. There were so many opportunities I could have had and so many experiences. It is time for a positive change.
