I've been thinking about this question for a bit over 2 years now, but now more intense than ever, because after 2 semesters I dropped out of college (studied business administration) to figure out what I really want to do. But now after 5 months I still don't know it.
At the moment it's most likely that I wont continue studying and will start a business. The problem is that a startup is all consuming and my social life was only about 30% of how I want it to be until now. Hell, I only lost my virginity and I'm 19 yrs old (I'll turn 20 in 2 weeks). This year, I made the resolution to do 1500 approaches and I know this is going to result in elite tier success with girls, but I know this wont be fully satisfying. Probably I'm over-romantisizing college life a bit, but I'm dreaming of something like this:
- having a big social circle
- having a clique
- house parties every week
With the knowledge I have (mainly from Chris) I think this is possible. Biggest problem: time and opportunity cost. Studying is a full time job. I wont be able to start a busines on the side, except for a blog for example, but nothing that could make me rich. I'am kinda "all in or nothing". Next problem: there are not many degrees I'd consider. If I would choose law or medicine (they can be studied right after high school here) those would take 6-8 (!) years to finish. There's no way that I would start a business after invested that much years into my education, so choosing law/medicine equals choosing a career for live. Computer science would be the best choice career wise, but I really don't like it. And there are zero girls. Other degrees are basicly worthless or I don't consider them. Chemistry for example can be lucrative, but you need to be a PhD and even then you need luck. Same with physics and biology. Math? Nope.
I just can't think of a job that would make me happy. I wanna be self-employed. Fuck. But I also want college life.
Oh, and I live in Europe, where studying doesn't cost anything fortunately. So I could also just start studying something for fun and without the intention of finishing it, for example sth like social sciences with a lot of girls.
tl;dr:
- only degrees I consider: law or medicine. That would mean I wont ever start a business, because I've already studied 8 years by the time I graduate
- want college life similar to tv series
- don't wanna waste time, but also don't wanna start a business without having had a good social life before
