In this thread I'll be keeping log of my Iodoral supplementation in order to asses if I'm deficient in Iodine, and if supplementing improves my (recently discovered) hypothyroidism.
Lifelong Symptoms:
- Low body temperatures (main method of assessing degree of hypo). Measuring with an oral thermometer first thing upon waking up, this morning it was 96.7. Been measuring for the past week or two and never been above 96.8
- Extremely cold feet, cold hands.
- Occasional brain fog, crippling lethargy
- Low overall libido.
- OK EQ, but cannot stay hard for more than 10 sec or so unless stimulation continues.
- Slow heart rate and blood pressure.
-Varying degress of confidence (50/50 I can do anything vs self doubt and anxiety) Could be stress induced from starting a business.
- Slow metabolism (I eat very little during the day compared to my size/activity levels)
2 years ago I had bloodwork done, and while it's a long time ago, not much has changed in terms of symptoms. According to this study: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15142373
There's a interrelation between hypothyroidism and hypogonadism - basically hypothyroidism mainly elevates testosterone and SHGB, but also prolactin and estradiol long term.
This means that hypothyroidism causes low T UNTOP of the shitty metabolism, low energy, etc.
What causes Hypothyroidsm?
Iodine is an extremely important chemical for the thyroid (and body). Since the body can't produce it itself, the thyroid can store up to 1-1.5 grams of it which shows just how important it is for the body.
Iodine is mostly found in sea food, so unless you're eating that regularly (and nothing else) you're probably deficient. One of the highest iodine containing foods are cod of which a serving contains 100 mcg of iodine. That means you'd need 10000 servings just to reach 1gram. See where I'm going?
Since the removal of iodine from bread, salt, etc it's been estimated that 80% of the western population is deficient in Iodine. Not only that, but bromine (a harmful halogen which is being used instead of iodine in food), can bind to the thyroid in the same way as iodine. This is a double whammy where the thyroid doesn't get its most important mineral, while being bombarded with a shitty, harmful one instead.

Enter Iodoral
In order to fix my hypo I will be megadosing Iodoral which is a mix between iodine and iodide. I will also be supplementing with NAC my liver get rid of all the bromine my body has stored up instead of iodine over the years (symptoms are metal taste in mouth, dry mouth, nausea, tingling in feet/hands)
Will also supplement 200-400mcg /day of selenium to guard against hashimotos and graves disease. Untop of that my daily regimen consists of D-vitamin, fish oil, zinc and magnesium.
Goal
To reach body temperatures of at least 97.7 in the morning and 98.6 in the mid afternoon. Unable to reach 97.7 at any time during the day atm.
06.05.16
25mg of iodoral. Within 10-20minutes metallic taste in mouth. Will do another 12.5mg later today. Taking it slow so I don't get fucked by bromine detox, but I will be upping the dosage as fast as I can handle.
t+ 2 hours, another pill of 12.5mg.
t+ 4 hours - last pill of 12.5mg
t+ 6 hours metallic taste in mouth, dry mouth, slight nausea
